This year's 5th annual Beauty Bus Foundation Beauty Drive raised $120,000 while also honoring its 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, Deborah Carver, CEO and president of Creative Age Publications, including Beauty Store Business, as well as Beauty Launchpad, The Colorist, DAYSPA, MedEsthetics, NAIL IT!, NAILPRO and Surgical Aesthetics magazines.
Carver was awarded for her humanitarian and professional achievements. Beauty Bus CEO Ronda Wilkin thanked Carver for her years as a mentor and supporter of Beauty Bus. In addition to the Beauty Bus, Deborah serves with the City of Hope Professional Beauty Association Executive Committee and frequently contributes advertising and editorial space for AIDS and breast cancer charities as well as numerous other beauty industry causes.
Beauty Drive 2014 sponsors included Creative Age Publications, Genetech, Aloxxi Salon Color & Care, Bosley Professional Strength, NYX Cosmetics, ORLY, Publisher’s Press, John Paul Mitchell Systems, JAFRA, Qosmedix, JOICO, Malibu C, Top Secret Hair, CND, Circle of Friends, The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and many others who donated products for their swag bags. Beauty Bus will use the funds raised to complete more in-home visits, produce more pop-up salons, send more Bags of Beauty nationally and expand its reach.
Carver and Calabasas community leader Sharon Boucher were also voted onto Beauty Bus' board of directors on April 22.
Boucher is a recognized community leader and activist whose career included executive positions in operations, organizational development, sales and systems management. She possesses a wealth of non-profit leadership experience. She is also a City of Calabasas commissioner, is on the Calabasas executive committee for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, is a board member for Las Virgenes Educational Fund and Gift of Life Los Angeles, and is a member of the parents’ advisory council at the University of South Carolina.
“The momentum this organization is experiencing is exciting,” said Daniel Rosenson, board president. “It’s like watching a small spark ignite into a full blaze. Six months ago we hired Ronda Wilkin as our new CEO. In the first three months of this year we have seen 68% more clients than last year. We have the attention and dollars from new donors and foundations; just placed Deborah, one of the beauty industry’s current icons on our board; not to mention the expertise of a community leader like Sharon; and we celebrated our 5th Beauty Drive event, raising more money than previous years.”
