Look for ULTA Beauty to start getting a ton of consumer PR in February when The Face—a modeling-competition TV series—debuts. The nationwide salon-store chain recently entered a strategic multi-media partnership with Oxygen Media for The Face that’s exciting.

The series is being produced by Shine America, which has hits that include Tabatha Takes Over, Shear Genius and The Biggest Loser.

Prestige makeup sales within U.S. department stores grew 8% to $1.8 billion in the period January 2012 through June 2012, according to leading market-research company The NPD Group. Here are some other key findings:

Nail and sets segments grew by 68%
Color enamel grew by 70%
Nail care increased by 36%
Base/top coats grew by more than 100%
Makeup set sales increase by 19%
Lip color grew by 10%
All other lip products (multifunctional lip products, moisturizers, etc.) grew by 54%
Lip gloss and lip liner both increased by 3%
