One-Quarter of Online Retailers Say Facebook Among Top New Customer Acquisition Marketing Tactics

While paid search and email marketing both still top retailers’ list of effective customer acquisition channels, social media has moved up the ranks to become an important tool for engaging with and attracting new customers. According to the "State of Retailing Online 2015"—which includes personal care among its industries surveyed and was conducted by, Forrester Research and Bizrate Insights—25% of retailers surveyed cite Facebook as a top acquisition platform.

Americans Have Highest Smartphone Usage

Americans are now spending an average of 4.7 hours a day on their smartphones—more than their counterparts in at least 11 countries around the world—according to a new monthly report from measurement firm Informate Mobile Intelligence, which tracks and measures consumer use of smartphones in 12 countries.

Last-Minute Holiday Shoppers Using Smartphones, Tablets

Fifteen percent of all holiday shoppers wait until the last minute to do their gift buying, according to a new survey from Retale, a U.S. location-based mobile phone app that alerts consumers to in-store deals and promotions from their favorite retailers.

Furthermore, 58% of all last-minute shoppers use smartphones and tablets to help them shop.

And among this group, 88% use mobile devices to locate stores and check store hours as they get closer to Christmas Day.

More Holiday Shoppers Pay With Smartphones

Nearly 30% of U.S. smartphone owners plan to use mobile payment offerings, such as Apple Pay or Google Wallet, for shopping in stores this holiday shopping season, according to the 2014 Holiday Mobile Payments Survey from Stratos, creator of the Bluetooth Connected Card Platform.

In fact, 17% of the smartphone users said they would spend more because of these new payment options. Smartphone users wanted to use mobile payments applications such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet in these locations for the holidays:
