EX•TRACTS Presents Best Product Awards

Winter 2012 EX•TRACTS has announced its Best New Product Awards winners, including its Best of Show recipient. The show is one of 10 divisions of the New York International Gift Fair. Both EX•TRACTS and NYIGF will run through Thursday, Feb. 2 in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94.

The EX•TRACTS distinctions are presented semi-annually and include Bath & Body, Beauty Accessory, Cosmetic & Fragrance, Natural/Organic and Packaging categories. Winners and finalists in each category are selected by a panel of editors based on innovative design, creative use of materials/construction and use of new materials/technology. Furthermore, they’re selected from more than 100 products of the 100-plus exhibitors featured at the show. Distinctions are as follows:


Recipient: Royal Apothic (London), Heroes & Aristocrats collection—men’s grooming products packaged in a vintage constellation print, featuring a candle, eau de parfum spray, ultra-fine shaving emollient and crème gel that exfoliates the skin during a shave.


Winner: J.R. Watkins Naturals (Winona, MN), Grapefruit Body Oil Mist—a full-body fragrance and moisturizing oil that is all-natural, has easy absorption and is made of fully sustainable resources. Finalists: Cali Cosmetics (New York City), E. Vulcano Body Crème; RICA bath & body (Brooklyn, NY), RICA Single Serving Minis


Winner: OKA b. Footwear (Buford, GA), OKA b. Ballet Flat—stylish eco-friendly ballet flats made of antimicrobial recycled plastic, with an ergonomic foot bed, a slight lift in the heel, a nonslip sole and reflexology-inspired massage beads, packaged in a collapsible magnetic box. Finalists: butter LONDON (Seattle), 3 Free, color-drenched nail lacquer; Soapwalla (Brooklyn, NY), Lip Locked


Winner: Simpatico (St. Louis), Ambergris Solid Perfume—a travel-size item that doubles as a moisturizing salve, it is made of beeswax, jojoba oil and vitamin E and features a sweet, musky scent that is said to have been a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I. Finalists: Fragrances of Ireland—Inis the Energy of the Sea (Laguna Beach, CA), Inis Energy of the Sea Solid Cologne Shell Compact; Votivo (Spartanburg, SC), Pink Mimosa Aromatic Collection


Winner: Marula—The Leakey Collection (Newport Beach, CA), Marula Oil—a full-body healing and beauty oil made from hand-selected kernels of wild-harvested fruit of marula trees in Kenya.
 Finalists: B. Witching Bath Co. (Hawthorne, NJ), Organic Muscle Rub; Anjolie Ayurveda (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), Anjolie Aromatherapy Body Butters


Winner: ECOYA (Botany Bay, Australia), Equality Candle—a 100% soy candle in ribbed, cobalt-blue glass with packaging that resembles a history book, as an homage to the historic efforts of social campaigns for marriage rights in the United States; with all profits being donated to the cause. Finalists: San Francisco Soap Co. (Fall River, MA), Geometric Collection of Bath Bars; Ebb & Flow (New York City), Gift Sets

The EX•TRACTS Best New Product Awards judges were Jean Warshaw, Beauty Store Business legal columnist (Beauty & The Law); Patricia Norins of GIFT SHOP; Meredith Schwartz of Gifts & Decorative Accessories; Susan Tucker of Giftware News; and Paulina Kajankova of Insiders Guide to Spas/Spirituality & Health. The show's breadth of categories extend across cosmetics, perfumes, skin care, bath & body care, beauty accessories, hair care, natural and organic products, and well-being lines.

The summer 2012 EX•TRACTS edition will take place Sunday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
