The Professional Beauty Association’s new First-Quarter 2012 Distributor Benchmarking Survey has just been released. The survey supplies sales, line, store, employee and educational data that can aid beauty distributors of all sizes in making business decisions.
The information in this recently redesigned PBA membership-benefit program can also help a beauty distributor benchmark his or her business against other similar ones.
Additionally, survey data reveals new ideas and business directions that are being well-received in the marketplace; as well as new or existing product categories/lines that increased overall business in the first quarter of 2012, according to the survey's participants.
Highlights of the first-quarter 2012 survey include:
- 84% of respondents said their sales rose between the first quarters of 2011 and 2012
- 65% added a haircare line to their portfolio in the first quarter of 2012
- 35% discontinued a haircare line from their portfolio in the first quarter of 2012
- In general, distributors increased their staffing levels between the first quarters of 2011 and 2012, and the full report details the types of positions that were added or deleted
"This enlightening report contains data that can’t be found anywhere else, and the results are free for participants," states Elizabeth Fantetti, PBA membership director. "We strongly encourage others to participate in future surveys so they too can benefit from this informative, industry-specific research.”

Each survey's results are available for $50 to PBA distributor members who don't participate in the survey, for $79 to PBA manufacturer members.
