OpenSky, a shopping social network for food, style, healthy living and design, has added beauty offerings to its site. The dedicated channel is the site’s first new category launch since it premiered a little more than a year ago.
Joining the site as curators, offering expertise and recommendations, are Too Faced founder and celebrity makeup artist Jerrod Blandino, dermatologist and skincare expert Dr. Fredric Brandt, former New York Times perfume critic Chandler Burr, cosmetic pioneer and celebrity makeup artist Sue Devitt, celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff, No More Dirty Looks founders Siobhan O'Connor and Alexandra Spunt, author and celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant, renowned hairstylist Orlando Pita, award-winning dermatologist Neal B. Schultz, M.D, celebrity hairstylist Tara Smith and Truth In Aging founder Marta Wohrle.
“We are creating a really powerful tool for shoppers by giving them a way to engage in meaningful conversation with top experts around things they want to buy, and then [helping them to] share those discoveries with other shoppers,” said Allison Slater, general manager of beauty and healthy living at OpenSky. “It's equally exciting for the industry experts who have spent their lives in the beauty business and can now directly share their knowledge with others in a new social way.”
Each of the experts will curate a new selection of products, consisting of their personal picks for the best in beauty, every week. Shoppers can communicate directly with the curators within OpenSky’s platform as well as watch their videos and read their reviews.
The site, which is marketed as offering boutique-like shopping in a Facebook-like environment, allows members to shop directly from their personalized homepage, providing an active feed of new products recommended by the experts they have chosen to connect with. The site’s beauty platform will offer shoppers insider access to tricks of the trade in all areas of beauty. And, in additon to beauty, OpenSky’s more than 100 experts include people in style, food, home décor and healthy living, such as Martha Stewart, Bobby Flay, Cynthia Rowley, Tom Colicchio, Molly Sims and Tony Horton.
OpenSky was recently named to the list of “The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies” by Fast Company magazine. It has attracted more than 1.5 million members who are making more than 10 million connections to the site's experts.
