This year's International Salon and Spa Expo Midwest scheduled for Nov. 3-4 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois—the only venue that the show has ever had—will not take place. And its future is uncertain.
In a statement at the show's website, the Professional Beauty Association states that ISSE Midwest "has been postponed indefinitely starting with the 2013 event." Beauty Store Business confirmed the decision about the salon-industry cash-and-carry fall trade show with the PBA before tweeting the news on June 10.
"Although the event was projected to be viable in upcoming years and the beauty industry showed tremendous support, the Board of Directors and Executive Staff for the Professional Beauty Association (PBA), producers of ISSE Midwest, has determined that the resources used would be better allocated to PBA’s other programs, including new regional networking and educational events and legislative efforts," says the statement. "PBA is continually working to advance our industry. Our primary goal is to meet the demands of our members. As the industry’s leading trade association, we will continue exploring new opportunities, working with beauty organizations, and striving to support the growth of the industry."
ISSE Midwest debuted March 26-28, 2011. According to PBA's post-show press release, it attracted more than 12,500 attendees and 150 exhibitors. It also hosted the 2011 Legends & Icons Charity Gala.
Dates for the 2012 show were originally announced for April 15-16, but were later changed to Nov. 4-5. According to PBA's post-show press release, it saw an increase in total exhibitor square footage from the initial launch in 2011.
