Preview the Upcoming EX•TRACTS in January

EX•TRACTS at the New York International Gift Fair will take place on Sunday, Jan. 27, through Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Level 1. It's one of 10 divisions of the NYIGF, and this winter 2013 edition is now sold out to exhibitors.

Of the multiple personal-care categories to be presented, three are showing notable growth: natural/organic products, perfumes/fragrances and men’s lines.

About half of EX•TRACTS’ 100 exhibitors carry natural and organic lines, and about 25% feature fragrances and men’s lines.

“While the demand for natural and organic products continues to be strong, there is increasing demand for luxury body care," says Melissa Engongoro, EX•TRACTS sales manager. "EX•TRACTS exhibitors are responding to this growing consumer trend by expanding these product offerings.”

Hours for the show floor are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the first three days, with a 2 p.m. close on the fourth day.

EX•TRACTS and the Day Spa Association will continue their partnership by presenting a special seminar during NYIGF. “Visual Merchandising: In-Store and Online” will be offered at the Javits on Sunday, Jan. 27, from noon to 1 p.m. Allan Share of the Day Spa Association and Patti Biro of Patti Biro and Associates will offer a 360-degree strategy for visual merchandising in specialty stores, spas and salons utilizing a multichannel, sensory approach. Seminar tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on-site, and can be purchased online at

The EX•TRACTS Best New Products Awards will recognize excellence in five categories—Bath & Body, Beauty Accessory, Cosmetic & Fragrance, Natural/Organic and Packaging—along with one overall “Best of Show” distinction. Winners—which are selected by a panel of editors based on innovative product concept, industry need, aesthetic appeal, creative use of materials/technology and creative packaging—will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
