Internationally acclaimed actress and singer Rihanna has launched Fenty Beauty. A couple of years in the making, the brand was made available to the masses Sept. 8. It is available in Sephora and, reportedly 150 countries, online. And it seems to have achieved the superstar’s goal of inclusivity and diversity, as it features 40 different shades for skin tones ranging from very pale to very dark.
Fenty Beauty focuses on face makeup, including foundation, primer, highlighter and concealer/contour, along with beauty tools. And it offers a single lip gloss, a rose nude that is sure to complement a variety of skin tones. The brand’s website caters to consumers’ current celebrity obsessions by offering a 3-step process to achieving Rihanna’s radiant look, along with a host of video tutorials, and the skinny on her beauty looks from recent star-studded events.
Rihanna, who made history as beauty giant Dior’s first black spokesperson, is part of a growing trend in celebrity beauty brands. Fenty Beauty occupies celebrity beauty space among the likes of Drew Barrymore’s Flower collection, Kat Von D Beauty and, of course, long-time celebrity beauty brand Iman, launched by the former supermodel in 1994. Undeniably, celebrity beauty brands are increasingly replacing the deluge of celebrity fragrance brands witnessed throughout the millennial.
