Mark Spinks—most recently the COO of Beauty Systems Group—has been promoted to president of Sally Beauty Holdings' professional-products distributorship, replacing longtime BSG president John Golliher.

Sally Beauty Holdings announced Feb. 5 that president and COO Chris Brickman succeeded Gary Winterhalter as CEO effective Feb. 1, 2015. Winterhalter will continue to serve the company as executive chairman of the board of directors.

Mike Spinozzi, president of Sally Beauty Supply since 2006, is retiring. The retirement plan became public when Sally Beauty Holdings reported its fiscal 2013 third-quarter results Aug. 1.

Gary Winterhalter, chairman, president and CEO of parent company Sally Beauty Holdings, addressed the retirement in the company's fiscal 2013 third quarter-results earnings conference call Aug. 1.

It was also addressed in a document filed in conjunction with the company's fiscal 2013 third-quarter results.

Salon and professional beauty appliances and shears grew 7.1% as a category in 2012, according to the new 2012 Professional Salon & Pro Beauty Industry Appliances & Shears Study from Professional Consultants & Resources, which provides market intelligence and data research for the U.S. salon and professional-beauty industry. Note that the 7.1% growth is 18% greater than the overall salon industry’s growth rate of 6% for the same time frame.
